Multichoice City.

Project completed by Andrew Wood as Director at GLH Architects.

144 Bram Fischer Dr, Ferndale, Randburg

Use: Office Building

Area: 94 000 M2

Client: Multichoice

Disclaimer: Andrew Wood was the Project lead for MultiChoice City while he was a Director at GLH Architects (Pty) Ltd. By including this project in our portfolio we are not claiming to be the architectural firm responsible for the design of this building, however, we would like to give credit to Andrew’s achievements during his career as a Professional Architect.

On the inside, the elegance and refinement of the structure is exposed in the light flooded atrium that creates the inner heart of the building. Connecting bridges float across the multi volume atrium linking the perimeter offices and workspaces, creating the opportunity for interaction and vital communication between staff across all departments. The evolving technology industry demands creativity and initiative of their staff. It was imperative to provide a workspace that supports innovation and collaboration and out of the box thinking. With this in mind, we designed the internal spaces to be generous and light with finishes that are bold and imaginative that embrace the new spirit of working. Connectivity for staff needed to be considered as Multichoice occupy a number of buildings in the immediate vicinity. A tunnel under Bram Fischer Road and a pedestrian bridge over it create a link that seamlessly tie the existing and extended campus together. Technology that addresses sustainability has been integrated into all aspects of the building resulting in the project achieving a 5 Star Green Star SA Office Design V1 and As Built V1 Certifcation. The most prominent of the elements that contributed to this rating are the pixelated glazed blind system on the front facade that is automatically controlled by the movement of the sun and the cutting edge ETFE (Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene) transparent tensioned roof system that spans the multivolume atrium area. By flooding the atrium with natural light the building sets the stage for an inclusive and responsive company culture, blurring the boundary between inside and out.

Multichoice is synonymous not only with cutting edge technology and communication, but has become a window on the world of current events, sport, learning, glamour and entertainment. Grosskopff Lombart Huyberechts and Associates Architects were commissioned to design a building for Multichoice that would capture this spirit and become a landmark to the communication and connectivity that Multichoice represents. Their building needed to reflect a marriage between cutting edge sustainable technology, unique design and interactive workspace trends.

Situated on the corner of Republic Road and Bram Fischer Drive in Randburg, this prime location called for a bold statement building. The sweeping roof planes and careful articulation of glass, steel and stone in the facade modulation establishes the language of the buildings external urban face. It is my pleasure to write on behalf of Inclusive Design Architects. My experience working with Inclusive Design Architects has been excellent. They are true professionals who bring important construction knowledge and outstanding management skills to their projects. I have worked with Andrew Wood on many Multichoice projects. - NMS Properties - Multichoice
I would highly recommend the use of the Inclusive Design Architects (IDA) for your building or design project. My wife and I have worked with Andrew and his team for the last year on a new custom home project and are extremely satisfied with their work. This is the first home construction project for us and Inclusive Design Architects (IDA) has turned a challenging process into very enjoyable experience. The key to their service is “one-stop” shopping for architectural design, interior design and builder selection. It is so much easier and cost effective, to have one team handle these critical steps of the process. Inclusive Design Architects (IDA) came highly recommended and they have met our expectations.

- JP Nobrega Chartered Accountants (Pty) Ltd
As a current Client it gives me great pleasure to write a letter of recommendation in support of Inclusive Design Architects (IDA).  I would highly recommend the use of Inclusive Design Architects (IDA) for any building, urban design or design project. IDA was appointed to assist with an extensive turnkey project to the value of approximately R 45 000 000. The project time-frame for renovation was effectively 3 months to handover.  IDA and Andrew as Principle approached the project with the utmost professionalism and played a critical role in ensuring that the building renovation was completed on-time and on-budget.

- Pharmacy Direct (Pty) Ltd
I would like to recommend Inclusive Design Architects, as I have known Andrew Wood for many years. For the past year, working with Inclusive Design Architects has been very satisfying. We have worked together on different scaled projects and every project was treated with the needed professionalism & an overall positive problem-solving attitude. Andrew is an extremely knowledgeable and highly motivated individual who is always willing to find solutions for both builder and client. He has the ability to not only complete a fast-moving business deal, but to keep his team focused to the end of a project.

- U.R.E Projects (Pty) Ltd
Inclusive Design Architects (IDA) came highly recommended and they have not only met expectations but have exceeded them by far due to their ability to assimilate the objectives of the project and the vision of the Client.  Andrew and his team would be of great value to any project.
